Qualitative systems mapping
We help our clients describe the system within which their policy space is embedded. We map key interdependencies in the system at hand using qualitative methods, identify KPIs of importance to our clients, and prioritize key areas of uncertainty for further investigation.
Besides scoping, we utilize qualitative methods to validate our causal assumptions about the client’s systemic problem, and to communicate our perceived problem structure, i.e. the model in a compact form.
By doing so we make implicit mental models of the system operators explicit. This is essential to ensure efficient communication of our assumptions, results, and limitations.
CLDs are great tools for Systems Thinking as they help clients see the interconnections between seemingly separate system components. They help demonstrate how “Today’s problems are yesterday’s solutions” by emphasizing the key feedback loops that affect system outcomes over time..
